elcome
to horseback riding in Montana! Horses are a way of life here and the Lone
Mountain Ranch wrangling crew would like to help you explore the mountains
and forests around the Ranch and in Yellowstone Park. We are proud of our
well-trained herd and the wranglers who lead our rides with both enjoyment
and safety in mind. Rides are intentionally limited to a few riders, so you
can learn about this spectacular part of southwest Montana from your knowledgeable
wrangler. In addition to rides around the Ranch and
morning and afternoon rides, we also offer all-day
rides exploring areas in and around Yellowstone National Park.
ost
of our horseback riding is at a walking and trotting pace. All riding is geared
to the ability levels of our guests. Previous riding is recommended, but not
required. Please note that to ensure horse and rider safety in mountainous
terrain, we enforce a rider weight limit of 230 pounds.

love horses and Lone Mountain Ranch is an ideal place for young people to
develop the skills and self confidence to properly ride a horse while they
acquire an enhanced appreciation for nature. We start by teaching basic horsemanship
skills and build on those skills throughout the week. We offer rides for ages
six and older. Kids may join their parents
for family-oriented rides or participate in rides with other children.
e
recognize that many of our guests rarely, if ever, ride a horse. We know that
the best way of making sure our guests have a pleasant experience is to be
sure they get started on the right track. At the beginning of a guest's stay,
we conduct a "horse sense" clinic to explain
and demonstrate how to ride and behave around a horse. The clinic is followed
by a controlled ride in the arena where each rider is taught the principles
of Western horsemanship. Even our more timid guests quickly learn enough to
feel reasonably confident on the trail rides following the clinic.
